Luxe Leopard

When getting ready for a day out, the last thing wanted in the forecast for our hair are wind or rain.  Luckily, my wardrobe for this very breezy day included a vintage pillbox hat from Polished Raven.   With this I could easily tuck my hair into better showing off what I donned below.   So classic! is the inky black wiggle dress by Emerald & Palm.  Named the Nicole dress, this high neck, below the knee number, comes in black or white, and with a sleeve or no sleeve option.  The quality of the cut and fabric allow me to wear this without any corset or shape wear, yet feel pulled in at the right places.  I kept the the accessories simple with black mules and a vintage black circle clutch.

The most special piece of today's look is my vintage fur coat acquired from a long time family friend.  He was an antique collector and dealer, and I was always mesmerized by the museum-like pieces he covered his home with.  As a child, this life lived by my father's best friend, made me think he was royalty, but grew up to know him as an eclectic, generous man, with great taste for Big Band music.  I was given this coat just one day before he unexpectedly passed.  Now it has been over a year, and I have just now slipped it on, as I know his expectations of class and glamour were strict to say the least.

Opulent in Organza

It's officially Spring, and even though there's still a little bit of chill in the air, florals and fine fabrics have come full circle - as usual! Today's look is a classic 1930s/1940s silhouette, inspired by Old Hollywood legends and loves...

This is a custom made outfit, dreamed up by me, making it as close to a unique vintage ensemble as possible. I saw this beautiful bishop-sleeve blouse, hand tailored from 'Sparkle Designs by Vivia' and knew it was meant for me! Ornate with Organza and embroidery of blossoms and bouquets, this blouse is Old Hollywood opulence all the way. I especially love her attention to detail with the little blossoms placed on the hand sleeves, similar to a gauntlet glove.

The pink palazzo pants I had made to my measurements elsewhere, but they ended up being a match made in heaven! Similar to a 'beach pajama' of the 1930s, they are ultra wide, extra flowy, and glimmer in the sun, finished in silky satin. In 30s & 40s fashions, a satin wide leg trouser graced the gams of many starlets, making for the ultimate decadent silver screen look.

Pair palazzo pants with some puff sleeves, and you will no doubt be a 1940s Spring siren!

Country Cutie

Hello Spring! Today's style is sweet Southern Belle, meets silver screen dreams, with inspirations such as the dainty Dorothy Gale & bombshell, Brigitte Bardot. Both donned colorful gingham dresses, which was a popular fabric print seen in country / farm style fashions of the 50s & 60s.

I'm wearing a 1950s Candy Jones dress, which seems to be the designer of all of my favorite gingham peasant dresses in my closet. Candy sure knows how to do country-fied heartbreakers! It must be the Texan girl in me, that makes my heart flutter for this butter toned dress.

The ultra fitted bodice is shaped with waist and bust darts, with irresistible puffed sleeves and a fetching cutout horseshoe neckline. It is piped and filled with an adorable bib of row upon row of gathered eyelet frills, with a series of charming buttons perched down the bodice.

Below, the skirt is fantastically full and finely pleated into the nipped in waist, and trimmed again with a double eyelet frill. This perfectly made western dress checks all my boxes, and happens to be the most beautiful shade of pastel yellow, reminding me of the corn fields & flowers seen in the technicolor glory of the Wizard of Oz!

Of course, a pair a sky high, white, classic Spring-o-lators, and a cream satin hair bow à la Bardot, tops off any outfit.
