Florals & Flamingos

Waving palms, white beach sand, and pink flamingos is what you will find when you visit California's San Diego. The city of Coronado is rich with Old Hollywood history and has many spots of surviving architecture from the golden days. Balboa Park is just a hop and a skip from Coronado, and home to the rarest Caribbean Flamingos, whose lagoon was built in 1954. . .

The 125 year old Hotel Del Coronado is known worldwide, and remains one of our favorite nostalgic places to visit here on The Pink Collar Life. As you learned on our previous post, this was the filming location for Marilyn Monroe in Billy Wilder's "Some Like it Hot,"  in 1958.

The Flamingo Lagoon was built in the 1950s, and the Zoo had a marine biochemist whose specialty was pigmentation, create a special diet to keep the Flamingos as pink as possible. What a pink-collar kind of guy!

Today was casual but glamorous, with a vintage, pastel, 1960s floral floor-length gown, making me feel extra nostalgic and also ready for the summer. I blended in perfectly, with the manicured grounds and gardens of tropical plants and plush palms at such a grand hotel.

Birds of Paradise indeed!
